Ask Yourself, "Am I Ready for the Next Step?"
Practice growth isn't easy, but it is possible. But you have to actually be ready.
A common mistake I see in the field are solo owners jumping into the group practice transition before they're ready and burning out or growing too quickly to keep up. Whether you're looking to expand your team or explore other options, ask yourself these questions below to help determine what you're really ready for.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
→ What unique expertise, skills, or knowledge do I possess that could be monetized?
Which formats would my ideal clients find most helpful, digital products or physical?
How many tiers of formats could I create to recycle some of the same material with different levels of depth to make a variety of accessible formats? (e.g. a $700 online workshop, can be summarized down to a $30 e-book, which the content for can be dissected out to make lead magnets, blogs and cheaper worksheets)
How can I create passive income streams that offer ongoing value to the community and clients?(subscription-based models, membership programs, provide continuous access to valuable content and resources)
→ How can I incorporate my personal values into the content or offerings of my passive income streams?
What specific pain points or challenges do the populations I work with face, and how can my expertise address those needs?
What pricing strategies can I implement to ensure my offerings are accessible and attractive to this community?
Think Beyond the Therapy Room
→ What unmet needs exist within my community or target market?
Are there specific cultural or linguistic barriers that may be hindering access to mental health care?
How do current events or societal issues impact the mental health needs of my community?
→What creative formats or platforms could I explore for delivering therapy?
Would offering walk-and-talk therapy sessions in nature, hosting therapy retreats or workshop be right for me?
How can I leverage technology to enhance service delivery?
→ How can I collaborate with other professionals or disciplines to expand my services?
Can I integrate complementary modalities or holistic approaches into my practice?
→ What ethical considerations do I need to keep in mind when exploring new service expansion ideas?
What potential risks or harm could arise from implementing new service expansion ideas?
How will I maintain professional boundaries and integrity when implementing new service expansion ideas?
Make an Impact, Far and Wide
As therapists, we're catalysts for change. How can you extend your impact beyond your practice walls? Reflect on ways to give back to your community.
→What forms of outreach align best with my strengths and preferences?
What causes or issues am I most passionate about?
What are the needs of my local community?
What long-term impact do I hope to achieve through community outreach?
→ What resources do I have available to support community outreach efforts?
How can I leverage my professional network to support community outreach efforts?
What type of financial preparedness would I need to plan ahead for?
Flying Solo Or Leading a Pack
Before taking the leap into managing a team and transitioning to a group practice, it's essential to pause and reflect on a few key questions to ensure you're fully prepared for the journey ahead
→What is my motivation for expanding to a group practice?
Am I seeking to increase revenue, serve more clients, or delegate tasks to focus on other aspects of my practice?
Do I enjoy collaborating with others and believe a team-based approach would enhance the quality of care?
Do I have a plan in place to ensure a smooth transition without jeopardizing the financial stability of the practice?
→ Am I prepared to take on the responsibilities of managing a team?
Have I developed leadership skills necessary to effectively lead and inspire a team?
Am I comfortable with delegating tasks, providing feedback, and resolving conflicts among team members?
Have I thought about the administrative tasks involved in hiring, onboarding, and managing staff?
Do I have strategies in place to foster open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among team members?
Can I articulate how the group practice will differentiate itself in the market and provide value to clients?

What if you could extend your reach beyond your therapy sessions and generate passive income while still making a positive impact?
